Rear Cat Declaw

I was very concerned before deciding to get my two cats rear feet declawed.  They had their front feet declawed when they were young and neautered.  I searched the Internet and read a lot of negative things about declawing. The cats were ruining our  furniture, just by jumping to and  from them and digging their rear claws into the fabric, leather or wood.

We went to the vet and had a consultation and the Dr. scared me  a lot and I had to go home and really think.  She said that they may have phantom pain after the claws are gone, that it's a lot harder on a grown cat because of their size, (one of mine is fat) more weight on their feet. That they won't be able to scratch an itch, and on and on.  I didn't know what to do.

We talked it over and decided it's the thing to do so we can uncover our home. We had blankets on everything.

It was the BEST decision ever.  The cats came home and were a little tender for a day, but they had pain medicine that I gave them twice a day. By the third day it was like nothing.  This went much better than when they had their front feet done.

For the people that are against declawing - just think, would you rather be outside wandering around, getting attacked by dogs, or hit by cars and have your claws or would you rather live like a king and sleep on fluffy pillows, eat wonderful food, play with toys, have love and affection and have no nails.  It's a small price to pay for a life of luxury and love.  Go ahead and let your cats ruin your nice things and keep their claws, but don't judge me for my decisions. My cats have a WONDERFUL LIFE.

I have trained my cats not to claw things they shouldn't. Once in awhile they sneak out . So I'm glad mine have their claws.

To each his own.

To each his own. Exactly. I just wanted people to know that.

I challenge you to have your fingers removed up to the first knuckle and see if any kind of life you live after that is the same or worth it.

Lets be nice, no reason to be mean fellow hubbers!

Did you know you picked a hub that a lot of people had strong feeling about?

I think your kitties are pretty, I forgot to tell you.

Please come check out mine. I will not be mean.

I am not being 'mean', I am pointing out flaws in logic ad I welcome you and zestylemon to pick out mine.

Now. What exactly makes it okay to make a cat face the dangers of outdoor life just because it has claws? If you're so concerned about how your furniture looks that you'd rather either force the cat to live outdoors where it will encounter various extreme dangers and diseases or cut through bone and nerve just because it might damage it, perhaps you should stick to porcelain cats.

Not to mention, it is not a simple matter of having nails or not. As I said, it's literally cutting through their bone to ensure that those pesky claws will never come back. Cats walk on their toes. You've now forced them to readjust the way that they move and hold themselves and compromised their balance. I doubt you notice the difference, but rest assured they, naturally, would feel it, though why that matters I don't know because you're only concerned about the appearance of your furniture.

And finally, why you would disregard information from your vet is completely beyond me. They aren't telling you these things to save you money. Declawing is permanent. You say luckily your cats suffer no visible issues but you seem to be all about how things look so great. Did you know cats are notorious for hiding pain and discomfort?

"just think, would you rather be outside wandering around, getting attacked by dogs, or hit by cars and have your claws"

Huh? My cats LOVE to go outside and climb trees so obviously declawing is not an option for my kitties.

Wow. You're a moron.

Most people who are against declawing are weirdo cat women who live in trailer parks or run down homes. They don't care how much damage that their cats do with their claws. The indoor cats and owners have a better life when declawed. It beats living in a dump with scratched up furniture for sure.

Their just cats. They have no feelings.

I completely agree! I have tried everything with my cat, I used soft claws, which worked the first time then she figured out how to chew them off, I have tried training her by squirting her with water, but she now when she knows shes doing something wrong she just runs away before I can even get the bottle, and while I'm sleeping I wake up in the middle of the night to the sound of her scratching on something or ripping something apart. She is slowly tearing apart all of my furniture, curtians, she even found a spot on the wall where the paint had scuffed while I was moving furniture and she has been jumping up and scratching at it and actually doing a lot of damage to the walls! I am getting her declawed in a couple of weeks and have been reading information about it and I do feel bad, but I think she would rather be declawed then me kicking her out into the streets and forced to fend for herself.
